Allison Joseph

Allison Joseph

Allison Joseph is a college student, who has studied at both UC Berkeley and the University of Oxford. She is double majoring in psychology and environmental science. She has been in recovery from anorexia, bulimia, and over exercising for 8 years, continuing to learn from each step along the way. Her personal journey has greatly influenced her research in Southeast Asia, as she has created the “Ideal Woman” project. Working in both Thailand and Myanmar, Allison’s writing and photography explores the challenges, victories, and diversity of experiences held by women and young girls. Utilizing a variety of techniques, including theater, art, photography, and discussion, Allison facilitates a safe space for women and young girls to develop a greater understanding regarding their own perceptions of womanhood. Ultimately, it is Allison’s hope that “The Ideal Woman” project will allow women to have a voice and a choice in creating their own definition of self.
